About Salmofood

Salmofood was founded in 1995 with the purpose of supplying premium food to the salmon industry, from its plant located 15 kilometers from Castro, on Chiloé Island.

With an initial staff of 60 workers and a single production line, the company quickly positioned itself among the most important in the country. In 2012, it became part of Alicorp, a Peruvian company with a quarter-century of experience in the aquaculture industry.

Since its founding in 1995, the quality jobs that Salmofood provides to the Los Lagos region have grown by more than 400%, currently reaching over 300.

Today, the company operates one of the most modern fish feed production plants in the world, with a capacity of 240,000 tons of feed per year across four production lines.

Thirty years ago, we began producing freshwater diets —for fish from egg to approximately 100 grams—; seawater diets —for fish from 100 grams to 5 kilos, approximately—; and medicated diets.

Today, the company has developed different diet strategies. Within freshwater diets, for example, we now include recirculation system diets.

For seawater, on the other hand, the range is much broader. In addition to multi-species diets —Trout, Atlantic Salmon, Pacific Salmon— we offer species-specific diets, which are in turn divided into high and medium energy.

Furthermore, we provide specialized diets for different stages of the production cycle, adapted to the specific needs of each customer and environmental conditions.

The transfer of salmonids to the sea is one of the most critical stages in the salmon farming production cycle.

During this process, fish must adapt to a new environment, which requires specific nutritional preparation.

Feed quality during the pre-transfer stage is essential for the process to be successful.
